A FREE, 8-week class about Hollywood comedy, presented by Tom Samp. Beginning with a survey of early film comedy and a Harold Lloyd feature, we will watch and discuss seven hilarious classics of the sound era, featuring works by Billy Wilder, Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, Gene Kelly, Jack Lemmon, Christopher Guest, and others. Discussions and screenings each week.
Nov. 13: Best in Show (2000)Starring Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, Parker Posey. The world of amateur dog shows is affectionately lampooned by director Christopher Guest and his regular ensemble of lovable lunatics. Guest’s characteristic mock-documentary style and frequent use of improvisation yields some amusing insights into these wonderful, outrageous characters. No one is spared; only the dogs are sane!
